Creator Guide

Everything you need to set up FitCutter and start tagging your YouTube workout videos so your audience can train on their terms.

Overview

FitCutter is a Chrome extension that lets fitness creators annotate their YouTube workout videos with structured metadata: rest zones, movement types, and equipment tags. Once tagged, viewers who have the FitCutter extension installed can personalise the workout: skip exercises they can't perform, adjust rest durations, and filter by available equipment.

As a creator, you tag once; your entire audience benefits, regardless of fitness level, injuries, or home-gym setup.

๐Ÿ’ก
Free for viewers. The extension is free for your audience. Creators subscribe to unlock tagging capabilities for their own channel.

Prerequisites

  • Google Chrome browser (desktop)
  • A YouTube channel where you publish workout content
  • A Google account linked to that channel

1 Install the Extension

Visit the FitCutter page on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. The extension will appear as a small icon in your browser toolbar once installed.

โœ…
Pin the extension to your toolbar for quick access: click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome, then click the pin next to FitCutter.

2 Create Your Account

Navigate to the Creator Dashboard and sign in with your Google account. On your first login, you'll be asked to connect your YouTube channel:

  1. Google Sign-In Authenticate with the Google account that owns or manages your YouTube channel.
  2. YouTube Authorisation Grant FitCutter read-only access to your channel information. This is used solely to verify that you own the channel associated with the videos you tag.
๐Ÿ”‘
YouTube authorisation is a one-time step. After your initial registration, you only need your Google login to access the dashboard.

3 Generate a Passkey

Once logged in, the Creator Dashboard displays your unique passkey, a secure token that links the browser extension to your FitCutter account and YouTube channel.

  • Click the copy button to copy the passkey to your clipboard.
  • Passkeys can be regenerated at any time via the dashboard. When a new passkey is generated, the previous passkey becomes invalid; however, all tags created using the previous passkey will continue to function.
  • Keep your passkey private, anyone with it could tag videos on your behalf.

4 Connect the Extension

Open the FitCutter extension popup (click the extension icon in your toolbar) and paste your passkey into the input field. No need to click Save. After reloading the page, youโ€™ll see creator-specific buttons such as Start / End and Save.

โš ๏ธ
If the passkey doesn't match your channel, double-check that you've signed in to the dashboard with the same Google account that owns the YouTube channel. You can regenerate the passkey if needed.

5 Tag Your Videos

Navigate to any of your own YouTube videos.

โธ๏ธ

Rest Zones

Mark the start and end of rest segments. Viewers can then customise rest durations to match their fitness level.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ

Movement Types

Label each exercise segment (e.g. squats, push-ups, planks). Viewers can skip specific movements they want to avoid.

๐Ÿ”ง

Equipment Tags

Specify what equipment is used in each segment (dumbbells, resistance bands, etc.). Viewers filter by what they have at home.

Use the player-bar buttons to set the start time and end time for each segment, select the segment type, and click Save. Your tags are stored securely and become available to all viewers with FitCutter installed, instantly.

โš ๏ธ
Changes arenโ€™t saved automatically. Edits, deletions, and new segments are only saved when you click Save.

How Verification Works

FitCutter uses a multi-layer verification process to ensure only channel owners can tag their own content:

  1. Account Registration During first sign-in, you authorise FitCutter to read your YouTube channel metadata (channel ID, name). This is a one-time, read-only authorisation.
  2. Passkey Generation The dashboard generates a passkey cryptographically linked to your account and channel.
  3. Video-Level Check When you attempt to tag a video, the extension sends your passkey to FitCutter's server. The server verifies that the passkey belongs to the channel that owns the video. If there's a mismatch, the request is rejected.
๐Ÿ”’
Privacy first. FitCutter never accesses your video content, analytics, or subscriber data. The YouTube authorisation is limited to channel identification only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my viewers need an account?

No. Viewers only need the free FitCutter Chrome extension. No sign-up, no account, no payment required on their end.

Can someone else tag my videos?

No. Every tagging request is verified against your passkey and YouTube channel ownership. Only the channel owner can tag their own videos.

What happens if I regenerate my passkey?

Your old passkey becomes invalid immediately. You'll need to update the passkey in your extension. Previously saved tags are not affected.

Do I need to authorise YouTube every time I log in?

No. YouTube authorisation is only required during your first registration. After that, a regular Google sign-in is all you need.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, at any time. However, upon cancellation your tags will be paused. You can restore them instantly by returning to the app and upgrading to a paid plan.
